Ruggable Rug Assembly Guide

Ruggable rugs come in two setup types: All-in-One Rugs and Two-Piece Rug Systems. Both are easy to set up - align, unroll, and smooth. This guide shows how to set up All-in-One Rugs, assemble Two-Piece Rug Systems, and confirm the correct Rug Pad size.

How to Set Up an All-in-One Rug

  1. Unroll and Relax: Unroll your All-in-One Rug and let it relax flat.

  2. Add a Rug Pad (Optional): If you purchased an optional All-in-One Rug Pad, set up the pad first. Check the Rug Pad Setup Table at the bottom of this page to see how many pieces your pad has. Position the pad where you want the rug, then unroll the rug on top.

How to Assemble a Two-Piece Rug System

  1. Set Up the Pad: Place your Rug Pad where you want the rug. Check the Rug Pad Setup Table at the bottom of this page to confirm how many pieces your pad includes. If it has multiple pieces, push them tightly together with no gap or overlap.

  2. Roll Up the Cover: Roll up the Rug Cover with the design side facing in. This allows the grippy backing to make contact with the Rug Pad as you unroll it.

  3. Position: Place the rolled Rug Cover along one short end of the Rug Pad.

  4. Align Corners: Before pressing the cover down, position one starting corner so the Rug Cover extends slightly past the Rug Pad on both edges of that corner. Then align the other corner on the same starting edge so the cover sits straight and the overhang looks even.

  5. Anchor: Once the starting edge is straight and evenly positioned, press it down to anchor it.

  6. Unroll: Slowly unroll the Rug Cover down the length of the Rug Pad, smoothing from the center outward as you go.

  7. Check Seams: If your Rug Pad has multiple pieces, pause before reaching the seam and confirm the pad pieces are still pushed tightly together.

  8. Center: Continue unrolling and smoothing, keeping the Rug Cover centered so the overhang stays even on both long sides.

  9. Finish: Press along the edges to finish.

Overhang & Alignment Guide

Your Rug Cover is designed to be slightly larger than the Rug Pad so the pad stays hidden once assembled. This extra material around the edges is called overhang.

  • On larger rugs (including 6x9, 8x10, 9x12, and 10x14), you may see about 2–3 inches of overhang on each side.

  • Smaller sizes may have less visible overhang, but the goal is the same: keep the Rug Cover centered so the Rug Pad stays hidden underneath.

  • Note: Because the Rug Cover grips the Rug Pad as soon as it makes contact, you won’t be able to slide it into place after it is down.

Two-Piece Rug Systems use the same basic assembly method for all sizes. Larger rugs may require more open space and an extra set of hands.

  • Side-by-side pieces: Lay the pieces flush against each other along the long edge. Push them tightly together so there is no gap or overlap at the seam.

  • Puzzle pieces: Interlock the pieces and press the teeth fully together so the pad lays flat before placing the Rug Cover.

  • All-in-One Rug Pad: This optional accessory adds extra cushioning under All-in-One rugs for a softer, more plush feel.

Assembly Tips

  • Working with a multi-piece pad? Push the pieces tightly together before you start and re-check the seam as you unroll over it. Any slight bump at the seam should relax within a few days.

  • Seeing bumps or bubbles? Smooth them from the center outward. Anything left after assembly should flatten on its own over a few days.

  • Need a little extra help flattening? Use a vacuum on a low setting or a dry sweeper to help coax the Rug Cover flat.

  • Working in a tight room? Assemble the rug fully in a larger open space, then roll the finished rug and unroll it in place.

  • Cover arrived heavily creased? Let the Rug Cover relax flat for a day before assembling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are rugs compatible with carpets?

Yes, rugs can be placed over carpet, but they work best on low-pile carpet. Avoid layering rugs over high-pile or very soft carpet, as it can cause shifting, wrinkling, or tripping hazards. For best results, use a rug pad, anchor the rug with furniture, or secure it with rug tape.

Are rugs are safe for hardwood floors?

Yes, all Ruggable rugs are designed with real-life homes in mind, including hardwood floors. Our 2-Piece Rug Systems pair with a Ruggable Rug Pad, while our All-in-One Rugs are designed with built-in floor-gripping support. Both options help keep your rug secure while protecting floors from scratches, marks, and everyday wear.

What’s the difference between Standard and Cushioned Rug Pads?

Ruggable has two rug systems and three pad options. The original 2-Piece Rug System can be used with either a Standard Rug Pad for a lower-profile feel or a Cushioned Rug Pad for extra comfort underfoot. All-in-One Rugs have their own separate All-in-One Cushioned Rug Pad option for added cushion while keeping the convenience of the one-piece design. Please note that 2-Piece Cushioned Rug Pads and All-in-One Cushioned Rug Pads are not interchangeable.
