Pluto is in Aquarius, Tesla robots can vacuum our rugs, and ChatGPT can have philosophical conversations. It's a brave new world, and 2025's interior design trends are shaping up to be some of the boldest, most innovative designs to refine our living spaces.

From earthy tones to futuristic patterns, the latest interior decor trends blend comfort, creativity, and sophistication in unexpected ways. Whether you’re a seasoned decorator or just want to zhuzh your space, these interior design trends provide plenty of inspiration. We pinged interior decorator Taylor Simon and our Manager of Design Trend Forecasting Claire Pinckney for tips on how to incorporate each trend into your personal space. So step outside of your comfort zone and reimagine your home with these 12 interior decor trends that will define 2025.

1. Archaic Modernity

Call forth ancient and primal aesthetics. Focusing on raw materials, softly rough textures, and natural forms, this trend combines ancient design principles with modern sensibilities. “Techniques like embossing, marbling, and striating create surfaces reminiscent of molten lava, bark, and stone, evoking a connection to the Earth's ancient processes,” says Pinckney. Balance earthy elements such as sandstone walls and textured mineral finishes with more luxe materials like marble and granite countertops. “[this] introduces a sense of permanence, while vibrant, plush furnishings, such as a bold yellow sofa, infuse warmth and modernity. Opt for rugs with organic textures, marbled designs, or earthy tones like sand, clay, and stone, “Fossil-inspired textures, with their mottled colors and intricate imprints, add a sense of historical depth and mystery.” Pair these with curved furniture and natural materials like clay pots or stone sculptures for a calming environment with raw elegance. This nurturing space creates a feeling of calm in an otherwise overstimulated world. It aims to connect us back to our roots through primal textures and earthy tones — evoking a sense of being grounded, protected, and mindful. “This holistic approach fosters a unique fusion of the natural and the cosmic, creating visionary sanctuaries that resonate with ancient wisdom while offering modern functionality.”

2. Art Deco Reimagined

Reinvent the timeless glamour of the art deco era by merging it with the bold patterns and vivid colors of the 1970s. This trend celebrates joyful nostalgia, offering fresh takes on geometric designs and luxurious materials. It’s a dynamic aesthetic that feels both classic and contemporary, perfect for adding a striking yet elegant touch to any space. Opt for bold geometric patterns or shimmering finishes in jewel tones or rich neutrals. Pair these with statement lighting and metallic accents, or layer with vibrant 1970s-inspired decor for a swankier look. Pinckney suggests incorporating rich blues and deep burgundies with warm neutrals and hints of metallics. Additionally, contrasting high-shine surfaces like lacquered wood with softer, matte textures, such as velvet or textured plaster, embodies the luxury and modernity that is this trend. “Globally, we are living through turbulent times, and Art Deco’s ability to embody both indulgence and practicality makes it resonate deeply with the desires and constraints of today’s consumers,” says Pinckney.

3. New Industrial

Soften the utilitarian aesthetic of traditional industrial design by blending it with eclectic influences. This trend celebrates the beauty of decay, incorporating aged materials, weathered textures, and subtle color accents for a more refined and layered look. It’s a tribute to the beauty found in imperfection, offering a modern interpretation of industrial roots. “The industrial aesthetic is trending because it resonates with contemporary desires for spaces that feel authentic, adaptable, and grounded in history, while also embracing modern innovation,” says Pinckney. This trend also reflects a shift in values toward sustainability and adaptive reuse. “The Industrial aesthetic encourages the use of reclaimed or repurposed materials, aligning with eco-conscious design practices.” This versatility allows for the creation of unique and personalized spaces as well. Pair rugs with distressed finishes or subtle abstract patterns in muted tones to echo the weathered appeal of this trend. “Brushed, hammered, and acid-treated metals add depth, while natural wood finishes provide warmth and contrast against sleek metal countertops and appliances. The balance between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design is key.” Complement this with a blend of restorative darks and nuanced neutrals, to soften the space.”In a world where people crave individuality and a sense of place, Industrial Edge delivers an aesthetic that is both practical and deeply evocative.”

4. Southwest Flow

Balance, balance, balance — we're all in search of it. This aesthetic blends clean lines with earth tones and natural materials to create a beautiful harmony reminiscent of nature’s surfaces and inspired by Southwestern motifs. Warm and minimal but also nontraditional and contemporary, this trend blends rustic with a futuristic sensibility rooted in serenity and comfort. Try this modern take on traditional homestead living, with earthy shades like terracotta, sandy beige, or sage. Simon recommends mixing wood tones to seamlessly blend this warm and calm aesthetic, “mixing wood tones is one of my top tips to inject warmth into your space.” Sprinkle in some flowing patterns to mimic natural landscapes with textured throws, ceramic decor, and natural wood furniture to make this aesthetic even more grounded.

5. Digital Dreamscape

Blur the lines between reality and fantasy, leaning into AI-generated visuals and ethereal landscapes. With liquid lines, sensorial textures, and soft, muted colors, this trend is all about tranquility and surrealism. Iridescent details and subtle ombrés lend an almost otherworldly feel to the space, inspired by virtual reality, generative AI, voice activated kitchens, wearable biometric devices, and many other technological innovations. Add a digital touch to your space through gradient patterns like in our Barbie™ Pink Ombre Tufted Rug. If you’ve been curious on how to incorporate metal into your living space, Simon encourages playing with it in this aesthetic, “[this is] a fun way to incorporate metal tones like chrome into your space.” Pair these with soft lighting and sculptural decor to enhance the surreal aesthetic.

6. Dark Elegance

Dark elegance proves that less can be more when it comes to luxury. This wellness-inspired trend evokes a sense of calm through monochromatic palettes and rich textures like marble, hand-carved wood, and limestone. An emphasis on subtle textures through ribbing, fluting, and abstract patterning adds dimension to an otherwise minimalist approach. Begin with tone-on-tone designs with muted neutrals and deep, rich, nocturnal colors to really make this aesthetic shine. Our Martyn Lawrence Bullard Kian Red Rug is a great option to layer with soft lighting, curved furniture, and metallic accents for a sophisticated and refined touch. “Dark elegance plays with deeper color tones that nod to the cozy season. A deep navy paint or burgundy rug would be a great way to incorporate this style,” says Simon.Burgundy has emerged as a cornerstone in this trend, offering a rich, understated elegance that exudes warmth and sophistication.

7. Coastal Scandifornia

Be on vacation at home, too. This coastal trend reinvents seaside decor through soft utility and Scandifornian minimalism. This is a fresh twist on a classic aesthetic, making it less seasonal and more evergreen. Inspired by the timeless charm of coastal living, this trend balances classic coastal charm with contemporary sophistication. Classic blue-and-white stripes are reinvented with a palette of sage, teal, and golden yellow. Easily incorporate this trend at home through wave-inspired patterns, with breezy linen curtains, rustic wooden furniture, and sea glass accents. Simon recommends taking this trend a step further by opting for thrifted or unique items, “this is a great way to inject some color and personality into your home through collected objects.”

8. Nature-Inspired Maximalism

Welcome to the jungle. Nature-inspired maximalism calls forth lush botanical prints with fantastical, nature-inspired motifs. The more dramatic, the better. “As the pendulum swings away from minimalism, people are leaning towards the "more is more" mindset,” says Simon. This trend creates an immersive environment that centers the beauty of the natural world through mossy greens, marbled blues, and patterns on patterns. This trend is easy to emulate with oversized botanical prints — our Justina Blakeney Josephine Midnight Rug is perfect. Pile on the indoor plants, stack your wood furniture and opt for natural fibers to really bring the feeling of being outdoors indoors. And if you've got a black thumb, instead of a green one, Simon recommends wallpaper, “if you're not great at caring for plants, use a nature-inspired wallpaper!” Living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms are excellent spaces to try this trend — the lush greenery and bold patterns energize living spaces, add a cozy and luxurious element to bedrooms, and make bathrooms feel more spa-like and serene.

9. Elevated Homestead

The elevated homestead trend is like if cottagecore and shabby chic had a sophisticated baby. “This style embraces a ‘lived in’ look. [It] reminds me of the house from The Holiday. If you know, you know.” This aesthetic is thoughtfully simple, with delicate florals, patchwork textiles, and DIY checkerboard prints in soft watery colors like sea green, pale blues, and corals. We love how this trend celebrates imperfect human designs and lends itself to handmade alternatives for a sense of authenticity and charm. Our Architectural Digest Selene Neutral Multicolor Rug works great for this trend because it balances rustic charm with a modern edge. Nail this trend by layering in vintage-inspired decor like lace curtains and distressed wooden furniture to evoke a bit of nostalgia — all that’s missing is a freshly baked apple pie.

10. Color-Blocked Minimalism

Adult playtime looks like this; an exuberant take on minimalism. Color-blocking is the focus through the use of primary colors, grids, and futuristic shapes to create a balanced yet vibrant aesthetic. It’s a meta-minimalist approach that merges functionality with form. “This is for those who want to add more color but not clutter,” says Simon. Bring this playful energy to your space with rugs featuring bold, scaled-up patterns in vibrant hues. Start slow; color can be infused minimally and gradually, “making one bold choice when it comes to color can add so much character to your home. A little goes a long way!”
